Free Math Tutoring

Starting February 13, 2024, Our Midian will provide free math tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5pm to 5th grade students at Ruby Young STEAM Academy in DeSoto ISD. In 2023, most (76%) of these now 5th graders did not meet performance grade levels on their STAAR exam. We have asked the school administration to choose 15-20 of those students that will most benefit from our program.

We will monitor their progress through weekly assessments using previous published questions on the topic (TEKS) that we have covered.

Growth and More!

For the 2023-2024 school year, the students passing rate increased by 31% (12 more students passed from the previous year).

Also, the number of students on the Masters Performance level went from 0 to 3 (7%).

These are the same students that had not passed in 2 previous years.

Saturday School

This year, 2024-2025, we have added Saturday School to help reinforce the learning that is occurring at Ruby Young. We would like to thank the students for continually working hard and giving their best. The UTA National Society of Black Engineers and Healthsmart Volunteers were a blessing and we could never show the gratitude we felt for what you did and continue to do... for free. Also, the DeSoto Early College students stepped up and showed out! Thank you all so much! Let's keep it going.
